The complete piece will consist of three movements, with the remaining two still in progress. Once finished, all movements will flow seamlessly into one another; however, each movement will also have an alternative ending to be performed individually.
Since the first movement needed to be ready for a concert in April 2025, I’m now offering it for sale individually ahead of the full release. Buyers of the first movement will receive a significant discount on the complete edition once it becomes available, should they wish to own the full work.
The print edition of “Amsel” (Movement 1) is printed on high quality 100-GSM paper at a fine 600dpi print resolution and is bound with a thick outer cover. Included with this is also a download code for the PDF version.

About the piece
The first movement, which bears the same name as the entire piece, was composed for Yannik Helm’s last wind orchestra project where it also premiered. The concert featured compositions by composers who were born or lived in Fulda and I was invited to be a part of it, which gave me the motivation to write this piece.
At the time, I had abstract images and stories of some garden fauna in my head, especially that of a blackbird (“Amsel” in German), which I set to music as usual. Unlike what often happens in works about birds, however, in “Amsel” you don’t observe a bird from an outsider’s point of view, but rather adopt its perspective.
So while composing, I found myself in a monumental world with dangers, feelings and thoughts from the experiences of this little bird.

Das gesamte Werk wird aus drei Sätzen bestehen, wobei die beiden anderen noch in Arbeit sind. Nach Fertigstellung werden alle Sätze nahtlos ineinander übergehen, jedoch wird jeder Satz auch ein alternatives Ende haben, um einzeln aufgeführt zu werden.

Über das Werk
Der erste Satz, der denselben Namen wie das gesamte Stück trägt, wurde für Yannik Helms letztes Blasorchesterprojekt komponiert, wo es auch uraufgeführt wurde. Das Konzert umfasste Kompositionen von Komponisten aus Fulda, weswegen auch ich ein Teil des Konzertes sein durfte, was mich letztendlich motivierte, dieses Stück zu schreiben.
Zu der Zeit hatte ich Bilder von Vögeln und anderen Gartenbewohnern im Kopf, besonders das einer Amsel, was ich dann wie gewohnt musikalisch umgesetzt habe. Anders als es oft in Werken über Vögel ist, beobachtet man in “Amsel” den Vogel jedoch nicht aus der Sicht eines Außenstehenden, sondern nimmt ihre Perspektive ein.
Während ich also komponierte, fand ich mich in einer monumentalen Welt mit Gefahren, Gefühlen und Gedanken aus den Erfahrungen dieses kleinen Vogels wieder.
