Double Violin
Chamber · | 2020

The influences that composers encounter throughout their lives profoundly shape who they become and how their music evolves. Often, these influences arrive in unexpected ways and through unexpected sources.

Double Violin was composed in 2020 and is dedicated to Brett Yang and Eddy Chen, the creators of the YouTube channel TwoSet Violin. While it was originally written for their challenge to compose a duo for violins, it is, more importantly, a tribute and a heartfelt “thank you” to them for inspiring countless young people, including myself—to discover and embrace classical music.

Through their humorous yet insightful videos, I was introduced to works I might never have encountered otherwise, or at a way later point, including Igor Stravinsky’s Le sacre du printemps, a piece that became pivotal in my growth as a composer. Their influence not only broadened my musical horizons but also guided me toward a deeper passion for concert music and sparked a lasting curiosity about the violin.

Their impact on me has been essential in shaping the path I follow today, and this piece is dedicated in gratitude for the inspiration they continue to provide.
