Blepharisma are tiny unicellular organisms that live in fresh and salt water. There are many dozen species of blepharisma, though all of them possess a series of membranelles that look like tiny legs which they use to transport food into their oral grooves, and for movement.

Despite this piece sounding somewhat lighthearted in many places, the idea for it stems from a rather sad image: A Blepharisma suddenly dying and simply dissolving into the liquid around it. This image of what seems like a cruel death stuck with me ever since I saw it in a microscopy video. A cluster of cells floating around in the water, until it suddenly expels its ’innards’ and the whirring motion of its membranelles come to a halt.

With this piece I hopefully achieved what I often like to do with my music, and approach ideas from a point of perspective to give raise to the smallest of things, and bring us closer to a world beyond our comprehension.
